Poetry Writing Contest (University of Santo Tomas)

31 January 2010
Poetry Writing Contest (University of Santo Tomas)
The UST Miguel de Benavides Library’s contribution to the commemoration of the 400th year anniversary of the foundation of the University is an exhibit entitled "Lumina Pandit: an Exhibition of Historical Treasures." Why “Lumina Pandit?” “Lumina” is a Latin word which means “light” or “lights;” the words luminary, luminous, derive from it. “Pandit” is also Latin from the verb “pandere,” the basic meaning of which is, to spread, to grow, to expand. Consequently, the University of Santo Tomas can be conceived as the instrument through which light is spread in our land.

The contest is open to: (1) All Thomasian students of AY 2009-2010 (including Graduate School students), (2) Alumni, (3) Published student writers, and (4) Those who have participated in other literary contests. There are two categories for the contest - English and Filipino. Participants may submit 1 entry for each category. There is no prescription to the length or form of the poem. Entries should be addressed to the Office of Public Affairs or the Miguel de Benavides Library and should be postmarked not later than March 31, 2010. The winners in each category will receive certificates and cash prizes.
